lOperatives of the Ondo State Police Command have discovered a suspected counterfeit currency printing operation in Kiniso Village, via Ajue, Odigbo Local Government Area of the State.
The operation led to the arrest of one suspect named Peter Desmond and the recovery of three bags of suspected counterfeit United States dollar notes and other materials believed to be connected to the illicit activity.
The Spokesperson of the Command, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, confirmed the arrest in an official statement issued and made available to journalists in Akure on Tuesday.
The Senate has rejected calls for the revival of Nigeria Air, while urging the Federal Government to renegotiate and enforce Nigeria’s Bilateral Air Services Agreement with China to allow Nigerian airlines to operate direct flights to the Asian country.
The lawmakers said the existing aviation arrangement needs to be reviewed to address the imbalance in flight operations between both countries and ensure that Nigerian carriers enjoy reciprocal access to China directly.
The resolution followed a motion sponsored by the Senate Chief Whip, Senator Tahir Monguno, who drew attention to the need to enforce and review the Bilateral Air Services Agreement, BASA, between Nigeria and China.
There was slight back and forth on the floor of the Senate as a Bill for an Act to provide a comprehensive legal framework for the transformation and modernisation of agriculture in Nigeria suffered a setback.
The bill sponsored by the Deputy Senate President seeks to promote food security, agricultural productivity, mechanization, irrigation, agricultural financing, agro-industrialisation, rural development and climate-resilient farming.
It started when lawmakers complained that copies of the bill were not distributed, leaving them unable to make informed contributions

Americans voted on Tuesday in pivotal midterm elections, with Democrats hoping to seize control of Congress and impose the first significant checks on Donald Trump’s chaotic second term in the White House.
If Republicans lose the House, Democrats could stall Trump’s legislative agenda and launch sweeping investigations into his administration. A Senate defeat would also threaten his ability to appoint Supreme Court justices and senior officials.
The election amounts to a nationwide judgment on Trump, with the mood turning sharply against Republicans amid anger over soaring living costs and the war against Iran.
Sports
The Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the National Institute for Sports (NIS), Philip Shaibu, has expressed confidence in Nigeria’s U-17 Women’s National Team, the Flamingos, to win the ongoing competition and return home with the trophy.
Shaibu, who said he followed the team’s preparations ahead of their departure, disclosed that he was encouraged by what he observed during their training sessions. He added that he was familiar with some of the players and had personally identified a few of them.
He said his confidence was further strengthened by the final squad selected by the technical crew, commending the team’s approach of taking each match as it comes.
