The Christian Association of Nigeria, South-West region, has decried the spate of insecurity in many parts of the country, calling on governments and other stakeholders to act decisively on the matter.

To this end, the group called on the Federal Government to declare a state of emergency on insecurity in the country.

This was contained in a statement issued by the CAN Chairman in the South-West, Bishop Barnabas Akin-Akinsanya.

According to the statement, the group expressed profound concern and deep anguish over the alarming escalation of kidnappings, banditry, and violent crimes across Oyo, Ekiti, Ondo, Lagos, and several other parts of Nigeria.

The National Association of Nigerian Students has launched a 90-day nationwide review of Tertiary Education Trust Fund projects following growing concerns over alleged project abandonment, poor execution and delayed delivery of interventions in tertiary institutions across the country.

In a statement issued on Sunday, NANS President, Akinteye Babatunde, said the decision was informed by persistent complaints about the quality and completion of some TETFund-funded projects in beneficiary institutions.

According to the association, while the Federal Government has continued to invest heavily in the education sector through TETFund interventions, concerns remain over whether the projects are being delivered as approved and whether students are deriving the intended benefits.

The association noted that the committee would embark on a nationwide tour of universities, polytechnics and colleges of education to independently verify the status of TETFund projects and assess their impact on teaching, learning and student welfare.

The former Kano deputy governorship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party during the 2023 general elections, Yusuf Dambatta, has defected to the All Progressives Congress.

He expressed optimism that the APC will provide a more suitable platform for him to contribute effectively to the advancement of the Kano people and the development of the state and the country at large.

He also reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to the service of the people, the promotion of unity, and the pursuit of policies and programmes that will enhance peace, prosperity, and sustainable development.
