NOW THE DETAILS

The Department of State Services (DSS) has clarified that it did not arrest or detain Professor Okey Ndibe at Murtala Muhammed International Airport on June 1, 2026, or at any other location that day.

The clarification was contained in a statement posted on X by Favour Dozie, Deputy Director, Public Relations and Strategic Communications, Department of State Services.the encounter with the professor was part of an ongoing review of old Watch-List Actions (WLAs), some of which date back to Nigeria’s military era.

The DSS explained that the current Director-General ordered a comprehensive review of such records upon assuming office to ensure that citizens are not subjected to unnecessary embarrassment due to outdated entries on the watchlist.

The agency also urged individuals who believe they may still be affected by existing watchlist actions to formally contact its National Headquarters to support the ongoing review and delisting process.

The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) says Nigeria’s oil and gas production remains unaffected following the closure of its offices nationwide by protesting workers.

Members of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) had blocked access to the NUPRC’s headquarters in protest over alleged irregularities in foreign training placements, forcing suspension of administrative services.

the disagreement was caused by the management’s decision to prioritise local training programmes over foreign capacity-building initiatives.

The top management of the commission is meeting with the unions in order to put an end to the strike and ultimately restore normalcy.

Aviation Safety Roundtable Initiative (ASRTI) has called on the Federal Government to adopt a fuel-for-stability programme that will allocate crude oil directly to local refiners to produce aviation fuel.

The group said it would eliminate the alleged N60 billion subsidy scheme to the airlines and provide lasting relief to Nigeria’s struggling aviation sector, including other operators in the industry.

the soaring cost of Jet A1 fuel was the single biggest threat to the sustainability of domestic airline operations.Jet A1 prices had remained between N1,650 and N2,037 per litre, pushing fuel costs to nearly 50 per cent of airline operating expenses and forcing carriers to increase ticket fares beyond the reach of many Nigerians.

the government is urged to put inplace strong regulations that would provide targeted relief for registered mass transit operators, food logistic providers and strategic productive sectors to reduce inflationary pressures.

The Commissioner of Police in Anambra, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has led a combined team of the Nigerian Army, the Anambra State Police Command, and the Agunechemba Security Squad to Ndiukwuenu community in Orumba North LGA of the state, the scene where gunmen killed two policemen and two civilians.

gunmen launched an attack on the convoy of Chief of Staff to Governor Chukwuma Soludo, Chief Ben Nwankwo.
the councillor president-general of the community was sanctioned for allegedly allowing criminal elements to operate within the area without promptly alerting security agencies.

The operatives of Agunechemba Security Squad, who were on the visit, also confirmed that the perpetrators of the heinous crime operate from Awka, the state capital, and use a white jeep to launch attacks on neighbouring communities .

Alex Iwobi has confirmed his availability for Nigeria’s upcoming friendlies against Poland and Portugal and is set to earn his 100th international cap if he features against Poland in Warsaw — a milestone that would make him only the fourth Nigerian player to reach the landmark after Joseph Yobo, Vincent Enyeama and Ahmed Musa.

His return is a boost for coach Eric Chelle, whose squad has been depleted by the withdrawal of Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, Femi Azeez, Samson Tijani, Alhassan Yusuf and Ebenezer Akinsanmiro.

the midfielder said, The 2025-26 season has wrapped up, a season of ups and downs. Of course, we wanted to secure a European spot, but it wasn’t meant to be. Nonetheless, we’ve got to be proud of what we achieved and how far Fulham has come as a club.

Iwobi made his competitive debut for Nigeria in an AFCON qualifier against Egypt in March 2016 and has since become one of the Super Eagles’ most consistent performers over the past decade.
