A former Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Victor Ochei, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress, citing the need for broader political growth and continued commitment to public service.
Ochei confirmed his resignation in a letter dated May 8, 2026, addressed to the APC Ward 4 chairman in Onicha-Olona, Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State.
His media aide, Austin Edemodu, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists in Asaba on Thursday.
The former lawmaker said his decision followed careful reflection and consultations.
Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has insisted that Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and former governor Abdullahi Ganduje remain his political protégés despite growing political tensions in Kano State.
Kwankwaso made the remark while addressing members of the Kwankwasiyya movement at his Miller Road residence in Kano on Wednesday.
His comments were in response to recent remarks linked to Yusuf, who was reported to have questioned why a 69-year-old politician would describe a 63-year-old man as “his boy”, Daily Post reports.

Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei said on Thursday that the United States and Israel were seeking to destabilise the Islamic republic in a written message read on state television.
“The enemy’s blind plan, after the imposed war, the economic pressure, and the political and propaganda siege, is to create divisions and disintegration in order to compensate for military defeats and bring the nation to its knees,” said Khamenei, who has not appeared in public since before he took office in March.
In his message, which marked the anniversary of the founding of the Islamic republic’s national legislature, he further called for unity and “cohesion” among Iranians.

Brazil forward Neymar is a doubt for the start of the World Cup after injuring his calf, requiring two to three weeks of treatment, the national team’s doctor Rodrigo Lasmar said on Thursday.
The 34-year-old Santos star will miss Brazil’s two pre-World Cup friendlies against Panama and Egypt, but may also be out of their tournament opener against Morocco on June 13.
An MRI scan “identified a grade two muscle injury… our expectation is that he will be available in two to three weeks,” Lasmar said at Brazil’s pre-tournament training centre just outside Rio de Janeiro.
