DETAILS:

Ogun East Senator, Gbenga Daniel has issued a public challenge to Governor Dapo Abiodun to appear on a national television programme for a live, face-to-face debate.
He declared that any refusal by the governor would be taken as an admission of defeat.
Daniel, who served as the governor of Ogun State, for two terms from May 29, 2003, to May 29, 2011, threw down the gauntlet on Thursday during an interview on TVC’s Beyond The Headlines, where he warned that Abiodun’s silence on the issues he raised would speak louder than any response.
“This is an open invitation. And between you and I, if you don’t do that, my assumption is that he ran away. It’s an open challenge,” Daniel said.

The Nigeria Police Force in Bauchi State has foiled an attempted kidnapping and arrested two suspects during a rapid response operation in Misau Local Government Area of the state.
The command’s spokesperson, Nafiu Habib, disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday, saying the operation followed credible intelligence received on May 12, 2026.
According to him, operatives of the command swiftly mobilised, trailed, and intercepted the suspects before they could execute their plan.
He said, “Acting on credible intelligence received on 12th May 2026 from an anonymous source, operatives of the Command swiftly mobilized, trailed, and intercepted the suspects before they could carry out their plan. The timely intervention prevented harm to the intended victims and disrupted the criminal network’s operation.”

Operatives of the Kebbi Hisbah Board have arrested a married woman and five other persons during a raid on a hotel in Kebbi State over alleged immoral conduct.
The six suspects, comprising three men and three women, were arrested during an operation carried out on May 14, at a hotel located behind the Presidential Lodge in Birnin Kebbi.
The Director of Shariah at the board, Sirajo Kamba, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued to journalists on Friday.
According to him, the operation followed intelligence reports received from members of the public.

FOREIGN NEWS

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has no love for Venezuela’s deposed leader Nicolas Maduro, and says he doesn’t take fashion inspiration from him.
Flying with President Donald Trump to China, a picture of Rubio went viral as he was decked out in a grey Nike tracksuit.
The suit — in brand and colour, if not size — resembled the Nike Tech Fleece attire sported by Maduro when he was photographed handcuffed in a helicopter after US forces snatched him in his sleep.
In his first public remarks on the viral picture, Rubio made clear he did not have Maduro in mind.

SPORTS NEWS:

Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya is now just one clean sheet away from equaling the club’s all-time Premier League record for most shutouts in a single season, according to reports from ESPN on Friday.
The Spanish international has been a central figure in Arsenal’s title challenge under Mikel Arteta, combining composure, elite distribution, and crucial saves to help deliver one of the strongest defensive records in England.
Raya’s next clean sheet would see him match the record jointly held by club legends David Seaman and Petr Čech, a remarkable achievement considering the scrutiny surrounding his arrival at the club earlier in the season.
