Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Blessing Agbebaku, on Friday tendered an apology to leaders and members of the All Progressives Congress in Owan West Local Government Area.
The apology was one of the conditions given to Agbebaku by Owan West leaders for him to align with the party’s leadership in the area, headed by Lucky Ohimai, popularly known as Tarex, as well as to be recognised as one of the aspirants seeking election to the House of Assembly.

Agbebaku tendered the apology at an enlarged meeting of the APC in the locality held at the residence of Ohimai.

The group leading the re-election campaign of Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, for the August 15 governorship poll, the Imole Campaign Council, has alleged that billboards belonging to the Accord Party were vandalised across the state.
In a Thursday statement signed by its spokesperson, Pelumi Olajengbesi, and obtained in Osogbo, the council alleged that billboards in Irewole, Ayedaade, Irepodun and Osogbo local government areas were destroyed by hoodlums working for the All Progressives Congress, aided by security personnel.

The council called for a probe into the incident by the Inspector General of Police and other security agencies, describing it as a pattern of “politically motivated violence and coordinated vandalism currently being unleashed across Osun State by desperate elements linked to the Osun APC.”

A Federal High Court in Abuja on Friday adjourned till May 11, 2026, a suit seeking to disqualify former President Goodluck Jonathan from contesting the 2027 presidential election.
Justice Peter Lifu adjourned the matter following an application by the plaintiff’s counsel, Ndubuisi Ukpai, who told the court that he was only recently served with a preliminary objection filed by the defence and needed time to respond.

The suit, which has continued to generate legal debate over Jonathan’s eligibility, is asking the court to determine whether the former president can lawfully present himself for another presidential contest under the 1999 Constitution.

FOREIGN NEWS

A US warplane disabled two Iranian tankers to enforce a port blockade on Friday, after Washington’s top diplomat said he was awaiting Tehran’s response to the latest proposed deal to end the Gulf conflict.
US Central Command said an F/A-18 Super Hornet had used precision munitions on the two ships to prevent them from continuing to Iran, as Iranian media reported “sporadic clashes” with US vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.

The latest incidents came after an overnight exchange of fire that triggered fears of a breakdown in the Gulf ceasefire, and after US Secretary of State Marco Rubio told reporters in Rome that Washington hoped to receive Tehran’s answer to the US proposal later on Friday.

Kylian Mbappe trained on Friday after recovering from a hamstring injury ahead of the Clasico against Barcelona, with Aurelien Tchouameni also involved following his bust-up with teammate Federico Valverde.
Top goalscorer Mbappe had been sidelined for two weeks, but Real said the French striker completed part of the group session two days before their trip to Barcelona.

Tchouameni also took part in the training the day after his altercation with Valverde resulted in the latter reportedly needing stitches.
The team confirmed that disciplinary proceedings have been opened against both players after the training ground clash, one of a spate of such incidents.
