The National Data Protection Commission says it recorded over 1,500 cyberattack attempts within a short period.
The National Commissioner of NDPC, Dr Vincent Olatunji, said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Thursday on the sidelines of a data protection training programme in Lagos.
Olatunji said the situation forced a temporary shutdown of the commission’s network and highlighted critical gaps in Nigeria’s data protection ecosystem.
He said the temporary shutdown by the NDPC was a security measure to prevent the hackers from succeeding.
The Independent National Electoral Commission has announced June 20, 2026, as the date for by-elections to fill vacant legislative seats in six states, aligning the exercise with the already scheduled Ekiti State governorship poll.
INEC Chairman, Prof Joash Amupitan, disclosed this on Thursday in Abuja during a brief ceremony held to welcome a newly sworn-in National Commissioner, Jamila Malafa, according to the commission’s bulletin.
Amupitan indicated that the commission is preparing for a series of off-cycle elections, with multiple contests scheduled to take place simultaneously.
Kogi State Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party has ratified an automatic ticket for Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan as the party’s sole candidate for the Kogi Central Senatorial District in the 2027 general election.
The decision was reached at a meeting held at the party’s secretariat in Lokoja on Thursday, where members endorsed the earlier approval granted by the State Chairman, Muhammed Gambo.
The committee also affirmed Natasha’s leadership of the PDP in the state, citing her consistent support and financial backing for the party’s activities and structure.
Speaking at the meeting, Gambo, on behalf of members of the working committee, praised her performance on the floor of the Senate, saying, “She has continued to make the party proud through purposeful representation.

UK police announced on Friday that they have charged a 45-year-old man over the stabbing of two Jewish men in north London, the latest in a string of attacks targeting Britain’s Jewish community.
The capital’s Metropolitan Police said Essa Suleiman, of Camberwell, south London, had been charged with three counts of attempted murder and one count of possession of a bladed article in a public place.
One attempted murder count relates to a separate south London incident on Wednesday in which the knife-wielding Suleiman allegedly had “an altercation” with the occupant of a flat, according to the Met.
The other charges cover the attack in Golders Green, a north London area with a large Jewish population, which has left the community feeling increasingly vulnerable and highly critical of authorities.

As reported on Friday, Rooney was quoted as saying that the hardest thing for a player is to understand that they may not be at the level they were. Rooney made this statement on The Wayne Rooney Show.
“I did it at Manchester United when Zlatan Ibrahimović came in and I wasn’t playing. I wanted to play so I left straight away. I accepted it,” he said.
Rooney compared that situation to that of Mohamed Salah, who is set to leave Liverpool FC at the end of the season after nine years at Anfield.
Salah has been central to Liverpool’s success, winning multiple major honours including the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup and Club World Cup. However, this season has seen a noticeable dip by his own high standards.
