Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, the Labour Party’s vice-presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, has announced his intention to leave the Labour Party and join the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP).
Baba-Ahmed made the announcement on Tuesday during an appearance on Channels Television’s political programme, Politics Today, citing internal disagreements and a departure from the party’s founding ideals as reasons for his exit.
I am leaving the Labour Party tomorrow. There is more to it. When there was real peace in the Labour Party, was when they posted back. They redeployed someone with a specific purpose, and because of the antecedent of the individual to make life difficult, particularly for me. What the Labour Party stood for then is no longer what it is today,” he said.
The former vice-presidential candidate said his defection would take effect at midnight, and confirmed the PRP as his next political destination.
“I am leaving the Labour Party [at] midnight, and I am joining PRP. PRP is the new destination. PRP is the one with a history. It’s about 75 years old,” he stated.
The Police Command in Ondo State has confirmed a suspected suicide incident at Emure-Ile involving a 20-year-old student of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, who was found dead in his residence.
The deceased, Audi Emmanuel, who was a student of Computer Engineering in the institution, had hung himself.
The incident occurred along Awolowo Road, Emure Ile-Owo, beside the Amotekun Office.
DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the command’s Spokesperson, confirmed the incident in a statement made available to newsmen on Tuesday in Akure.
Jimoh said police operatives promptly visited the scene, where the body was recovered and deposited at the morgue for preservation and autopsy.
“Preliminary observations suggest a case of suicide; however, a thorough investigation is ongoing to ascertain the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
“The command commiserates with the family of the deceased and urges members of the public to seek support and speak up during moments of emotional distress, as help is always available,” he said.
The Nigeria Police Force condemns the fatal shooting of a suspect, Mene Ogidi, which occurred on 26th April 2026 in Effurun, Delta State.
Preliminary reports indicate that operatives attached to the Effurun Area Command responded to credible information from Benin Motor Park along the Warri–Sapele Expressway regarding a suspect apprehended by members of a transport union while attempting to waybill a parcel containing a Beretta pistol with four rounds of ammunition.
While efforts were being made to take the suspect into lawful custody, the team leader, ASP Nuhu Usman, discharged his firearm in clear violation of extant regulations, resulting in the death of the suspect.
The leadership of the Nigeria Police Force has directed the immediate transfer of the officer and his team to Force Headquarters, Abuja, where they would face the Force Disciplinary Committee for summary disciplinary measures and prosecution.
The Inspector-General of Police extends his condolences to the family of the deceased and assures them that justice will be served in accordance with the law. He further urges members of the public to remain calm and law-abiding as the disciplinary and legal processes take their course.
The Nigeria Police Force maintains a zero-tolerance stance on extra-judicial actions, abuse of authority, and any conduct that undermines public trust.
President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday held a closed-door meeting with a delegation of Plateau State stakeholders led by Governor Caleb Mutfwang at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The delegation arrived at the Villa at about 1:00 p.m. for the meeting, which was scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m.
The discussions lasted several hours, though details of the deliberations were not made public.
The meeting is understood to be a follow-up to the President’s recent visit to Plateau State in the aftermath of the deadly Palm Sunday attack in Angwan Rukuba, Jos.
The closed-door session comes approximately four weeks after the March 29 attack, when gunmen opened fire at a busy junction in Jos, killing at least 28 people, including university students and staff, and injuring 22 others.
The incident triggered widespread fear and heightened security concerns across the state, with sporadic violence reported in areas surrounding the University of Jos.
President Tinubu subsequently visited Jos on April 2, where he met with government officials, traditional rulers, and families of victims.
Governor Mutfwang, during the President’s visit, indicated that stakeholders would need sufficient time to adequately brief him on the situation—a request Tinubu granted on the spot.
During the visit, Tinubu expressed condolences and assured residents of the Federal Government’s commitment to restoring lasting peace in the state.
He also called for decisive action against those responsible for the attack, urging security agencies to intensify efforts to apprehend the perpetrators.

Donald Trump’s picture will soon appear in some US passports, officials said Tuesday, shattering another norm as the president aggressively puts his personal stamp on government institutions.
The State Department, following reports by Fox News and The Bulwark, confirmed it would offer a limited-edition passport to mark this year’s 250th anniversary of the US Declaration of Independence.
The articles included two images set to appear inside the passports, one of Trump’s official photo imposed over the Declaration of Independence, with his signature — in gold — underneath.
The second showed a historic painting of the US Founding Fathers.
“As the United States celebrates America’s 250th anniversary in July, the State Department is preparing to release a limited number of specially designed US passports to commemorate this historic occasion,” State Department spokesman Tommy Pigott said on X, linking to the Fox News piece.

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Ousmane Dembele scored twice each as Paris Saint-Germain beat Bayern Munich 5-4 in an epic first leg of their Champions League semi-final on Tuesday, an extraordinary encounter becoming the highest-scoring match ever at this stage of the competition.
The first half alone was crazy, with Harry Kane giving Bayern the lead from a penalty only for Kvaratskhelia to equalise before Joao Neves headed the hosts in front at an enthralled Parc des Princes.
Michael Olise made it 2-2, but a Dembele penalty in first-half stoppage time had the reigning champions back ahead at the interval.
