NOW THE DETAILS

A police command in Katsina State has confirmed an attack by suspected bandits at Gurbi Village, Kankara Local Government Area, leaving 11 people dead.

Police spokesman, DSP Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu, disclosed this in a statement issued in Katsina on Monday, adding that two others were injured.
He said the attackers struck at about 2:40 p.m. on Sunday, opening fire on unsuspecting residents and killing victims on the spot.
The assailants fled as security forces closed in on the scene,” Sadiq-Aliyu said.
He confirmed a joint security team, including police, military and other agencies, responded swiftly to a distress call, forcing the attackers to retreat

Following the attack, the command reinforced security in the area, deploying additional tactical teams to prevent further incidents.
Sadiq-Aliyu said the command had also ordered intensified patrols and closer collaboration between security agencies and local communities.

The Imo State Police Command has called on people whose motorcycles were stolen or snatched at any time, within and outside Imo State, to present themselves for identification and possible recovery.
A significant number of the recovered 450 motorcycles remain unclaimed.
The state police command’s spokesman, Henry Okoye, made the disclosure on Monday.
He said claimants would be required to report at the Imo State Police Command Headquarters, Owerri, or the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, with credible proof of ownership, including purchase receipts, registration documents, engine and chassis numbers, or any other verifiable means of identification.
According to him, strict verification procedures would be followed to ensure that all recovered motorcycles were released only to their rightful owners, in line with established legal and professional standards.

The national leadership of the Accord Party has distanced itself from reports linking it to a proposed opposition coalition aimed at producing a single presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.

The National Publicity Secretary of Accord, Joseph Omorogbe, made the clarification in a statement issued in Abuja on Monday, describing the party’s inclusion in the reported Ibadan summit as misleading and unjust.

The rebuttal follows a high-profile political gathering in Ibadan, Oyo State, where leaders across multiple opposition platforms were said to have explored the possibility of forming a united front to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress in 2027.
The meeting has since stirred debate within political circles, amid growing calls for opposition cohesion and counterclaims from the ruling party that such efforts are premature given internal divisions within rival parties.

The Oyo State Police Command on Monday assured residents of adequate security ahead of the local government elections scheduled for December 29, 2026.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Abimbola Olugbenga, gave the assurance while receiving the leadership of the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission during a courtesy visit at the command headquarters in Eleyele, Ibadan.

Olugbenga said the command was fully prepared to ensure the safety of lives and property before, during and after the election.

“I want to assure the Chairman and his entourage of one hundred per cent support of the command in the forthcoming local government council elections.

The announcement came shortly after the Coordination Framework, an alliance of Shia factions with varying links to Iran and that had initially nominated Maliki, endorsed Zaidi to be its candidate.
